Training Information
Who
Biological Safety training is required for all research laboratory personnel (full-time, clinical, and temporary) who may work with potentially infectious materials. Personnel who work with potentially infectious materials must also know how to effectively decontaminate equipment or hazardous waste. Therefore, such personnel must take Autoclave Safety training, as well.
Purpose
Biological Safety training provides users of potentially infectious materials with insight into:
- Proper handling, use, and disposal methods;
- Safer sharps devices;
- Select agents & toxins;
- PPE & Engineering Controls; and
- Decontamination procedures.
Frequency
Biological Safety Training must be completed within five years from the date of your initial training, and every five years after that. Simply return to BioRAFT or Blackboard to review your respective training presentation and complete the associated quiz.
Classroom Training
In-class Biological Safety Training is provided on an as-needed basis. If you would like to schedule an in-class training session for you or your cohort, please contact Bruce Finlay, Biological Safety Officer.
