William “Billy” Haber is a Navy veteran who had to pivot professionally due to a medical diagnosis. With his unique set of skills, he took stock of what he could see himself doing after leaving the military and chose to purse a degree in higher education at Old Dominion 91Ƶ.
Over his time in academia, Dr. Pokojovy has seen data mining and machine learning setting the foundation of modern data science. He encourages anyone who has an interest in mathematics, statistics or data science to consider coming to ODU to pursue a higher education degree.

For Computer Science major and senior James “JJ” Wile, his fascination with computers started when he would mask keys and attempt to type on his mother’s computer around the age of four years old.
A mother’s love is one of the strongest bonds sealed at birth, but a family’s love can carry on through deep hurt and loss. For the Cash Family, parents John and Robin Cash, along with their two daughters Rachel and Leah Cash, the loss of John Evan still causes days of grief and pain. However, through their resilience, the Cash family started an endowment five years ago in memory of John Evan for undergraduates in the Department of Psychology.
Old Dominion 91Ƶ College of Sciences held the fourth annual Environmental Career Fair on Tuesday, October 7. This uniquely designed fair brought together ODU undergraduate students majoring in Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Ocean & Earth Sciences along with industry professionals.
Sandra Abdellah’s journey at Old Dominion 91Ƶ began with a spark ignited during her undergraduate years at Virginia Wesleyan 91Ƶ (VWU). That spark is now a passion for knowledge as a second-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at ODU, where she researches novel cancer therapies and global public health solutions.
Hafsah Sarfraz is a senior at Old Dominion 91Ƶ majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a pre-health concentration and minoring in Chemistry. She is determined to be a doctor one day because of the compassionate care she received after a serious car crash that she and her family were in.
Dr. Simões joined ODU in January 2024 and hit the ground running. In her lab, she collaborates with scientists globally and mentors ODU graduate students. One of her major goals is to bring awareness that Rickettsia remains comparatively understudied among intracellular pathogens and to advance strategies to prevent and treat infections transmitted by infected ticks.

ODU New Biological Sciences Building Coming Soon - Demolition 2025
In preparation for construction of the New Biological Sciences Building, three buildings are being demolished: Arthur & Phyllis Kaplan Orchid Conservatory, Alfriend Chemistry Building, and Pretlow Planetarium.
