The Environmental Health & Safety Office (EHSO) is responsible for the administration of programs that promote a safe and healthful environment for the 91Ƶ community. This is accomplished through prudent application of sound environmental and occupational safety and health practices. The EHSO is guided by the following areas of emphasis:
- Assist the 91Ƶ community in achieving compliance with applicable federal, state and local environmental, occupational safety and health and public health laws and regulations.
- Provide professional consultation, educational programs and training to promote safe work practices, protect the environment, and achieve regulatory compliance.
- Pursue close communication, trust and commitments with the 91Ƶ and regulatory agencies that will foster cooperation in achieving departmental goals and regulatory compliance.

91Ƶ Risk Management serves as a trusted partner to the 91Ƶ community by overseeing the 91Ƶ’s traditional risk management functions, including those supporting the Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion 91Ƶ. The department works collaboratively with 91Ƶ partners to advance loss prevention initiatives and manage claims and incidents. Additionally, 91Ƶ Risk Management conducts program and compliance reviews to identify liability and property exposures, as well as enterprise risks that could impact the 91Ƶ’s strategic goals and objectives.
