Become an expert in all facets of Body Imaging in an academic referral and level I trauma setting.
The Body Imaging Fellowship involves training in multi-modality imaging of the chest, abdomen, pelvis and vascular systems within a hybrid private practice. Four-week long rotations are both modality-based (MR, CT and US) and discipline based (oncology).
The MR experience includes prostate MR with DynaCAD, pre- and post-treatment workup of targeted interventional oncology therapy, MR enterography, routine abdominopelvic MRI. The CT experience includes routine body CT, CT colonography, lung screening program and high resolution CT of the chest, CTA, oncologic imaging including PET CT. Ultrasound includes routine abdominal and pelvic, thyroid, scrotum, early obstetrics, vascular/transplant applications, ultrasound contrast exams, and elastography.
What sets us apart?
Working alongside fellowship-trained radiologists, our fellows provide patient services and can conduct research while training at while training at American College of Radiology accredited Sentara Hospitals Norfolk, Sentara Brock Cancer Center, Sentara Advanced Imaging Centers, and Bon Secours Mercy Maryview Medical Center.
Our Body Imaging Fellows:
- Learn through daily readout with one on one teaching with faculty, regular didactics, and multi-disciplinary conferences (Tumor Boards for Liver, GI, GU, Thoracic, Pancreas, General Surgery). Fellows:
- Routinely participate in journal clubs, resident and medical student education and complete a Quality Improvement project.
- Receive protected research time.
- Can participate in Elective Rotations tailored to individual needs and desires, including opportunities in Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Breast, Pediatric Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Forensics, Radiation Oncology, and national meetings.
- Have opportunities for evening or weekend moonlighting.
Where you'll train
Fellows also have time for Elective Rotations (TBD), which are tailored to individual needs and desires, including opportunities in Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Breast, Pediatric Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Forensics, Radiation Oncology. Fellows routinely participate in tumor boards, journal clubs, resident and medical student education and complete a Quality Improvement project. Fellows are given protected research time. Additional opportunities are available for fellows’ involvement in scholarly activities and development of imaging protocols. Fellows will be at first directly and later indirectly supervised with graded independence appropriate to level of training with some rotations advantageous for independent practice.
At the Sentara Brock Cancer Center, the diagnostic imaging rotation focuses on body CT/MR – including advanced prostate imaging with DynaCAD, rectal MRI, work up of GYN malignancies, HCC screening and post-ablation studies as well as routine cancer follow ups.
A second rotation at the Cancer Center focuses on PET CT with referrals from the region’s largest medical oncology practice, award winning EVMS ENT and Urology Departments, thoracic, surgical and GYN oncologists using the latest tracers including Dotatate, Pylarify, and Cerianna.
Sentara Hospitals Norfolk is a quaternary care center with an excellent breadth of pathology drawing from a Level I Trauma center, full complement of surgical subspecialties, dedicated heart hospital, busy interventional oncology service, transplant service, as well as community physicians. At the main teaching hospital, the fellow interprets high level abdominopelvic imaging in all modalities using state of the art equipment.
The MR experience includes pre- and post-treatment workup of targeted interventional oncology therapy, MR enterography, routine abdominopelvic MRI with imaging on multiple high field MR scanners. The CT experience includes routine body CT, dual energy CT applications, CT colonography, lung screening in a high risk population and high resolution CT of the chest, CT urography, CTA, trauma and oncologic imaging on multiple 64 slice CTs and dual energy CT. Ultrasound imaging includes contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and US elastography.
Fellows learn through daily readout with one on one teaching with subspecialty trained faculty, regular didactics, and multi-disciplinary conferences (Tumor Boards for Liver, GI, GU, Thoracic, Pancreas, General Surgery).
