Dr. Nicholas D'Amato, a Navy veteran, who served as Chief of Pathology at Portsmouth Naval Hospital, was a beloved founding member of the faculty in Pathology and Anatomy, joining in 1974. Dr. D'Amato was also the founding director of the History of Medicine division and authored a three-volume collection: Vignettes, A History of Medicine.
Pathology and Anatomy established The Nicholas A. D'Amato, MD, Memorial Lecture Fund in memory of Dr. D'Amato, who passed away on December 23, 2013. Pathology and Anatomy funded $25,000 to endow the lectureship at our school. The lectureship brings distinguished scholars to our institution to present a lecture, or series of lectures, to physicians, residents, healthcare professionals and students on topics of interest to Dr. D'Amato including medical education, medical humanities, pathology and anatomy.
