Curriculum
- Fellows will have longitudinal rotations in two primary care sports medicine clinics and two orthopedic sports medicine clinics.
- Fellows will have the opportunity to rotate in orthopedic surgical subspecialties, PM&R, musculoskeletal radiology, and physical therapy practices.
- Fellows will cover high school and Division 1 football in the Fall and college basketball in the winter.
- There will be opportunities to cover other athletic events throughout the year including high school football.
- The fellow will be required to cover one mass event during the year.
- There are several local marathons that take place in the Hampton Roads area which provide for a great learning experience.
- Our medical school will be the primary medical physicians for the annual East Coast Surfing Championships. This is quoted as the longest running surf contest in the world!
- Didactics will occur regularly with the program director. This will include board exam preparation, sports medicine fellows online lecture series, and sports ultrasound curriculum.
- The fellow will be responsible for a case poster presentation during the year.
- There will be several local and national conferences the fellow will have the opportunity to attend.
Accreditation
EVMS Family and Community Medicine has earned Level 3 accreditation as a Patient-Centered Medical Home from the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
