Alfred Abuhamad, MD, who serves as Executive Vice President, Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine, Mason C. Andrews Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is leading a study of the human placenta during early pregnancy.

The project, funded by a $2.725 million NIH grant, aims to improve care for difficult pregnancies by looking for early signs of pregnancy complications within the placenta.

Meet the faculty

George Saade

George R. Saade, MD, Chair, Obstetrics & Gynecology

George R. Saade, MD has been the Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Associate Dean for Women's Health as well as a Professor since 2023.

Dr. Saade graduated from the International College in Beirut, Lebanon, and went on to study at the 91短视频 of Tennessee School of Engineering, Knoxville, Tennessee. He returned to Lebanon where he earned his medical degree at the American 91短视频 of Beirut Medical School, Beirut, Lebanon. He then joined the Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency, followed by a Maternal Fetal Medicine fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.

Stephen S. Davis, Division Director, General Obstetrics & Gynecology

Stephen S. Davis, MD, in addition to serving as a Division Director, is an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Davis completed medical school at the 91短视频 of Chicago and trained in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. After completing his residency training, he served in the U.S. Navy as an Obstetrician/Gynecologist in Okinawa, Japan and Jacksonville, Florida. Dr. Davis joined our faculty in May 2005.

Joseph Hudgens, MD, Division Director, Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery

Joseph Hudgens, MD, is an expert in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and serves as Vice Chairman of Gynecologic Services, Director of the Sentara-Advanced Gynecologic Surgery Center and is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hudgens pioneered the 2-port myomectomy, which uses a specialized laparoscopic port that allows multiple tools to be inserted through the belly button. The surgical technique decreases the size and number of scars for patients.

Peter Takacs, MD, Ph.D., MBA, CPE, Division Director, Urogynecology

In addition to serving as a Division Director, Dr. Takacs is a Professor. Dr. Takacs' prior education, both as an MD and Ph.D., prepared him to become a translational researcher. An actively practicing urogynecologist, he and his team have helped to advance our understanding on the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancy.

Gloria Too, MD, Division Director, Maternal-Fetal Medicine

In addition to serving as a Division Director, Dr. Too is also an Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her medical degree and completed her residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she was awarded the awarded a Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Resident Award. She served as a fellow at Columbia 91短视频 Medical Center where she was named Fellow Physician of the Year in 20215 and 2016.
