The ODU Institute for Coastal Adaptation & Resilience (ICAR), in partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the ODU Division of Research & Economic Development, posted our Request for Proposals for the Resilient & Adaptable Communities Partnership Program (RACP).  You can view and apply for this funding opportunity at the ODU Division of Research and Economic Development InfoReady . The proposal deadline is Friday, January 9.

This seed funding opportunity provides teams of researchers at ODU (tenured and tenure-track faculty and research scientists) with seed funding of up to $100,000 total for 1 year to develop partnerships with end users in Virginia to co-produce research and scholarly and technical products that advance coastal resilience, with an emphasis on broadening the use of nature-based solutions. The end users must be political subdivisions of the Commonwealth of Virginia (as defined in the RFP). These partnerships are intended to provide the record of partnership needed to increase the teams' ability to be highly competitive in future large proposal competitions.

Funding priorities for AY 2025/26 will be given to projects that include aspects related to the application in these areas:
  • Accelerating the adoption/deployment of living shorelines and other nature-based green and blue infrastructure projects in Virginia.
  • Evaluating the opportunities for and the effectiveness of nature-based solutions and hybrid infrastructure in reducing flood risks.
  • Economic valuation of natural resources and green infrastructure.
  • Informing and developing best practices for the strategic relocation of people, infrastructure, buildings, and other assets from flood-prone areas.
  • Synthesizing resilience options for integration in planning, including resilience practices into Virginia Watershed Implementation Plans under the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Agreement, and developing decision support tools to assist end users with long term resilience planning.
  • Quantifying flooding and climate change impacts on water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
