Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ offers a Graduate Certificate in the Fundamentals of Business. The Graduate Certificate in the Fundamentals of Business is designed to educate students in quantitative and qualitative methods to solve organizational problems and improve organizational effectiveness and performance. Many organizations are challenged by changing external circumstances and internal obstacles. Application of analytical approaches provides a more fundamental and systematic solution to adequately address these issues and create long-term success.
Students will gain knowledge in accounting, analytics, economics, and management. Students will develop skills in identifying different types of organizational challenges, like competition, cost control, product quality, and organizational culture. Graduates will be able to apply problem-solving skills to develop and implement appropriate solutions that will enhance organizational performance.

Five courses (13 credits) that can be taken online or on-campus in full-time or part-time modality.

Curriculum identical to the Business Foundations courses of the MBA program (if preferred, credits can be counted towards the MBA degree upon admission).

Plan, direct, or coordinate the operations of public or private sector organizations. Duties and responsibilities include formulating policies, managing daily operations, and planning the use of materials and human resources, but are too diverse and general in nature to be classified in any one functional area of management or administration, such as personnel, purchasing, or administrative services.
Conduct organizational studies and evaluations, design systems and procedures, conduct work simplification and measurement studies, and prepare operations and procedures manuals to assist management in operating more efficiently and effectively. Includes program analysts and management consultants.
Examine budget estimates for completeness, accuracy, and conformance with procedures and regulations. Analyze budgeting and accounting reports.

Students entering this graduate certificate should have completed an undergraduate degree and will be required to take a short online quantitative training to brush up on mathematics, statistics, and algebra. This training can be waived if the applicant provides recent evidence of quantitative competency.
