Explore the exciting world of Medical Laboratory Science through this hands-on, immersive summer experience at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ. Designed for students ages 16 and older, the MLS Summer Immersion Program introduces participants to careers in clinical laboratories, with a special focus on blood bank and core laboratory disciplines.
Participants will receive safety training and gain practical experience performing laboratory testing across the four major areas of the clinical laboratory:
- Clinical Chemistry
- Transfusion Medicine (Blood Bank)
- Clinical Hematology
- Clinical Microbiology
Students will also hear from guest speakers working in the field and take part in additional enrichment activities, including a hospital laboratory tour.
Housing, meals, and parking are provided at no cost to participants. While on-campus housing is recommended, it is not required to participate in the program. Accepted students will also receive a stipend to use at their discretion.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Age 16 or older
- Math/Science GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred
