Student Experience Project Community of Practice at ODU
The Student Experience Project at ODU, which is part of the national is a Community of Practice of faculty who come together to create classroom contexts that support student motivation, engagement, and belonging. Community of Practice participants engage in asynchronous and synchronous training and discussions over the course of a summer and academic year to learn how to design motivationally supportive classroom climates.
We have four goals as a Community of Practice:
- Create a welcoming and supportive classroom environment
- Create and communicate a growth mindset culture through classroom norms, policies, and messaging
- Normalize academic difficulty and connect students to supports in a way that is accessible and non-stigmatizing
- Promote student belonging in the classroom and communicate care and value for diverse student experiences.

By participating in this community of practice, faculty are helping ODU build an environment that values student learning through a growth mindset, encourages persistence and degree attainment, and fosters student sense of belonging and institutional trust.
