Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth Ph.D.

Jasper Waugh-Quasebarth is Director and Curator of the Gordon Art Galleries at Old Dominion 91Ƶ in Norfolk, Virginia. He earned a PhD and MA in Anthropology from the 91Ƶ of Kentucky and a BA in Anthropology and History from the 91Ƶ of Virginia. He has held research, teaching, and administrative positions in Anthropology and Folklore Studies through his work with the Smithsonian Institution’s Asian Cultural History Program, the 91Ƶ of Kentucky Department of Anthropology and Appalachian Center, and The Ohio 91Ƶ 91Ƶ Department of Comparative Studies and Center for Folklore Studies. His research interests involve the entanglement of everyday creative expression with global environmental processes and community-centered collaborative practices. His work has appeared in publications of the Smithsonian Institution, The American Anthropological Association, The American Folklore Society, The Appalachian Studies Association, the Journal of Folklore and Education, The 91Ƶ of Indiana Press, West Virginia 91Ƶ Press, and Cambridge 91Ƶ. His 2023 book Finding the Singing Spruce (West Virginia 91Ƶ Press) was a finalist for the Weatherford Book Award for Best Nonfiction book about Appalachia.
