Dr. Christina Mirisis earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in Hispanic Linguistics with minors in Italian Studies from the 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ of Minnesota-Twin Cities and her B.A. in Spanish, Italian, and Linguistics from The College of New Jersey. She has extensive experience teaching Spanish language courses at all levels and upper-level content courses, including Introduction to Hispanic Linguistics and Spanish in the United 91¶ÌÊÓÆµs with Community Engagement/Academic Service-Learning. Prior to joining the faculty of Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ, Dr. Mirisis taught at Lakeland 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ and at St. Norbert College.

Within the field of Hispanic Linguistics, Dr. Mirisis’ research focuses on applied linguistics and second language acquisition. She has published several peer-reviewed articles on second language acquisition of Spanish phonology and on sociophonetic variation in monolingual Spanish in respected journals, including the International Journal of Language and Linguistics, the Journal of Second and Multiple Language Acquisition, Hispanic Studies Review, and Borealis: An International Journal of Hispanic Linguistics. Dr. Mirisis has also published invited book reviews of Spanish language and Italian language textbooks in NECTFL Review. In addition, she has reviewed manuscripts for linguistics journals and publishers, including Linguistic Approaches to Bilingualism, Languages, and Cambridge 91¶ÌÊÓÆµ Press. She currently serves as an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Language and Linguistics. Dr. Mirisis has also regularly presented her research at prominent national and international conferences, including the Hispanic Linguistics Symposium, the American Association for Applied Linguistics, and the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, among others.
