At the Strome College of Business, learning expands beyond classroom walls. Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned, gain practical experience and build meaningful connections that will shape their careers.

These hands-on experiences allow Business Monarchs to sharpen their professional skills, explore career paths, and step confidently into the workforce with a competitive edge.

Meet two Strome College of Business students, Yonathan Tekleab and Isabel Hipolito, whose internship experiences exemplify how Strome, working together with community partners shapes the next generation of problem solvers in business through experiential learning.

Intern Spotlight: Yonathan Tekleab

Yonathan Tekleab, an Accounting student set to graduate in December 2025, who is gaining real-world experience as an Audit Intern at KPMG.

A typical day for Yonathan starts just before 9 a.m., checking emails and Microsoft Teams messages to stay on top of ongoing projects. Whether diving into carry-over work or meeting with his team around 10 a.m., he’s actively involved in project planning, time management, and professional communication. Throughout the day, Yonathan collaborates closely with his team, attends meetings, and ensures his work aligns with client and firm goals, all while embracing the flexibility and teamwork culture of public accounting.

Yonathan said this internship has strengthened his ability to work independently, make professional decisions, and manage his time like an experienced young professional.

“You are an adult, and you may make decisions like one, too, so make sure you uphold your end of that by managing your time and tasks like an adult.” – Yonathan

Yonathan credits the Strome College of Business with helping him prepare for success by providing valuable programs, resources, and connections—from understanding the accounting field to finding internships. His advice for other students: get involved. Attend internship fairs, join major-related clubs, and actively seek out opportunities beyond the classroom.
