Meet Rob Gies, Associate Technical Fellow at Newport News Shipbuilding and Engineering Professional in Residence at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ

Rob Gies, who oversees the new Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) office at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, also serves as the NNS Engineering Professional in Residence at Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ.

Gies, an associate technical fellow at NNS, has 35 years of experience as an engineer, engineering manager and program manager. He is also an ODU adjunct faculty member with the Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.

He is a triple graduate of Old Dominion 91¶ÌÊÓƵ, having earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, a master’s degree in Engineering Management, and a Ph.D. in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering. 

In his role at NNS, he supports students across engineering, business, technology, and modeling and simulation programs. His office, located on the second floor of ODU’s Engineering Systems Building, provides a direct connection between students and NNS for professional development and mentoring opportunities.
